While under-reporting is a problem with routine surveillance, the data provide case and death trends as well as geographicand age trends. Some diseases that cause severe illness and alarm such as Crimean-Congo Haemographic Fever (CCHF) and other haemorrhagic fevers are most likely reported accurately. However conditions that are clinically mild, such as is usually the case with food poisoning, are less likely to be reported, as people are less likely to seek medical attention. Also when they do seek attention, Health workers are less likely to report these less severe conditions.
