FOODSTUFFS, COSMETICS AND DISINFECTANTS ACT, 1972 (ACT NO. 54 OF 1972)

REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE PROHIBITION OF THE SALE OF COMFREY, FOODSTUFFS CONTAINING COMFREY AND JELLY CONFECTIONERY CONTAINING KONJAC

The Minister of Health has, in terms of section 15(1) of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act No. 54 of 1972), made the regulations in the Schedule.

SCHEDULE

  1. Definition

    In these regulations “the Act” means the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act No. 54 of 1972), and any expression to which a meaning has been assigned in the Act shall bear such meaning.

  2. Prohibition of the sale of comfrey, foodstuffs containing comfrey, and jelly confectionery containing konjac

    The sale of the following foodstuffs is, in terms of section 2(1)(a)(iv) of the Act, prohibited:

    1. Comfrey (common comfrey) (Symphytum officinale), prickley comfrey (S. asperum) and Russian comfrey (S. x uplandicum);
    2. foodstuffs containing comfrey (Symphytum officinale), prickley comfrey (S. asperum) or Russian comfrey (S. x uplandicum); and
    3. jelly confectionery containing konjac.
