HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF SOUTH AFRICA
REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE REGISTRATION OF NUTRITIONISTS
The Minister of Health intends, in terms of section 61 (1), read with sections 24 and 25 of the Health Professions Act, 1974 (Act No. 56 of 1974), in consultation with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, to make the regulations in the Schedule.
Interested persons are invited to submit any comments or representations on the proposed Regulations to the DirectorGeneral: Health, Private Bag X828, Pretoria, 0001 (for attention of the Director: Human Resources Development), within three months of the date of publication of this Notice.
SCHEDULE
Definitions
- In this Schedule any word or expression to which a meaning has been assigned
in the Act shall bear such meaning and, unless the context otherwise indicates
"professional board" means the Professional Board for
Dietetics established in terms of section 15 (1) of the Act; by Government
Notice No. R. 314 of 27 February 1998;
"the Act" means the Health Professions Act, 1974 (Act
No. 56 of 1974).
Qualification as a requirement for registration
- The registrar may register as a nutritionist any person who
- holds an appropriate qualification, granted after examination by any
institution or examining authority approved by the professional board,
which includes practical experience obtained under supervision of an appropriately
qualified practitioner in an accredited training institution, as prescribed
for this purpose by the professional board and
- if required by the professional board, has passed an examination as
may be prescribed by the professional t in terms of section 15B (1) (b)
of the Act.
Information required for registration
- Where the qualification on which an application is based has not already
been approved by the professional board applicant shall be required to furnish
the professional board, at his or her cost, with authoritative information
as to the educ; and training required for such qualification. If the standard
of such education and training is considered satisfactory and L complying
with such requirements or examination(s) as the professional board may determine,
such applicant maj registered by the registrar.
