The Department of Health would like to correct the perception that has been created in the Media that nurses who are performing Community Service in 2008 would be paid as Registered Nurses from July 01, 2008.
That perception is incorrect.
Any person who is intending to register for the first time as a professional nurse and has met the prescribed requirements to qualify as such, will perform remunerated community service for a period of one year.
Persons performing Community Service will be paid a Level 6 salary - which is as follows:-
This means that after having completed one-year of Community Service in 2008, these nurses will then be remunerated as Full Registered Nurses as of 01 January 2009 (because Community Service is one (1) year).
