Issued by Department of Health
05 October 2006
The Department of Health would like to inform the health care funders and provider groups that the National Health Reference Price List for 2007 would only be published after the finalisation of the relevant regulations under section 90 (1) (u) of the National Health Act (Act 61 of 2003).
The draft regulations will soon be published for public comment and all interested parties are encouraged to participate in this process, which is expected to last for three months. The final regulations will be published after consideration of the inputs from stakeholders.
The Department of Health advises the health care funders and provider groups to use in the interim the 2006 National Health Reference Price List and factor an appropriate inflation index in determining the tariffs for 2007.
The Department of Health is taking over the responsibility of formulating the National Health Reference Price List from the Council for Medical Schemes in line with provision of the National Health Act.
All role players in the health care industry are urged to act in a manner that will not jeopardise consumers during this transitional stage.
