Various health stakeholders met in Johannesburg today to consider the revised Charter for Health Sector that was published by the Minister of Health, Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang on 28 October 2005.
The meeting agreed to engage further on the process and the content of the Charter for the Health Sector.
The meeting agreed to form a structure made up of representatives of various health constituencies to negotiate the draft Charter, in accordance with the Codes of Good Practice as published by the Department of Trade and Industry.
The negotiating team is made up of three representatives plus two observers from each of the following constituencies:
The negotiating committee will meet early in January to begin the process. The Department of Health will facilitate and provide the secretariat support for the negotiations.
The broad stakeholder meeting will be convened in February to review the progress made in negotiating the Charter.
