The National Department of Health: Government AIDS Action plan Directorate is a catalyst in the commemoration of the National Health Calendar days. The Candlelight Memorial event is one of the key national health calendar events wherein we remember those living with and or affected by HIV and AIDS. During this time we also remember those lost due to HIV and AIDS related conditions.
The Candlelight Memorial demonstrates the importance of partnerships between Governments and civil society in the fight against the spread of HIV and AIDS. The theme for the 2008 National Candlelight Memorial is 'Stop HIV and AIDS...Never Giver Up". The theme seeks to remind Government and Civil Society of the gains made thus far in the HIV and AIDS response. It also seeks to promote an enabling environment that enhances participation and dialogue within communities thus improving skills for social mobilization and advocacy.
The National Candlelight Memorial event will be held as follows:
Date: Sunday, 18th May 2008
Venue: Mndantsane Indoor Sports Center, East London
