Health Information Centre

General Information

The Information Centre has a collection of more than 12 000 books, mostly specializing in health aspects. The journal collection includes both national and international titles and currently stands at 523 titles. The Centre also contributes to the national bibliographic network, SABINET ONLINE and makes full use of the online bibliographic references as well as the national interlending system available on SABINET ONLINE. The Centre has an extensive collection of World Health Organization and United Nations publications.

Business hours: 7:30 - 4:00 Mondays to Fridays

Loan periods: Books 3 months & 1 year (Dictionaries, Manuals, etc.)

Membership: Employees of the Department of Health Lending of documents: In partnership with the NLSA (National Library of South Africa) and Sabinet Online (ReQuest Interlending scheme)

• Complete a membership form at the Information Centre
• The record includes: Name ; Contact details ; Unique barcode
• A membership card is processed
• The patron is notified to collect the card
• An electronic record of all books on loan, is kept on the Loans database
• A paper copy of all transactions is printed and signed by the patron
