Project Management Unit Directorate

The Project Management Unit is a unit that has been created to help managers in the department implement health programmes using project management principles. It is a unit that manages special projects depending on the need and is also responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of projects that the unit is currently involved with. The minister's 10-point plan has also been captured into the system.

The vision
of the unit is to transform the entire department of health (National & Provincial) to manage using "a project management approach" by 2005.

Its mission
is to provide project management support, tools and monitoring services while building project management skills in the department. To this effect the Medicines Control Council, CDCC and Clinical Trials projects had been used as pilots on the project management basis and have since been successful.
