Sub-Directorate:International Health Liaison

Purpose: To monitor and coordinate international health liaison and activities.

Functions:

  1. Develop policy
  2. Co-ordinate IHL activities of Health sector
  3. Promote regional health cooperation for sustainable development
  4. Facilitate scientific amd technical cooperation
  5. Monitor international health trends and disseminate information
  6. Facilitate active SA membership with international health organizations and agencies
  7. Liaise on bilateral and multilateral levels

Sub-Directorate:Health Attaches

Purpose: To promote international health relations

Functions:

  1. Develop and manage SA's international health relations
  2. Utilise international resources in support of health
  3. Develop the role of SA in international scientific and technical co-operation.
  4. Develop institutional and national capacity for effective international liaison.

  1. Southern African Development Community (Regional Cooperation)
  1. Multi lateral Initiatives: Implementation of the SADC Health Protocol (Interdepartmental and Sectoral Collaboration within SA)
  2. Bi-lateral Initiatives: Angola, Lesotho, Swaziland
  1. Africa (Millennium Africa Programme)
  1. Multilateral Initiatives:
  1. Influence SADC to adopt the MAP approach.
  2. Influence donor countries/agencies to support MAP (G8 Okinawa Conference Declaration on HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and Cholera)
  3. Work more closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs.
