- The Partnership Against AIDS was launched by then Deputy President Mbeki, on October 9th 1998. In May 1998 the IMC approved the concept of a public launch for a mass mobilization campaign, which would encourage all sectors to come together to combat AIDS.
- The strategy is to place AIDS firmly on all South African's agendas.
Goals of the Government Aids Action Plan
- To raise Public awareness on the impact of HV/AIDS.
- To develop integrated HIV/AIDS plans within all sectors of society.
- To solicit ideas and responses from communities and all sectors of society.
Objective Of The Partnership Against Aids
- Expand sectoral involvement in HIV/AIDS
- Intensify HIV/AIDS communication utilising the mass media
- Develop, support and promote HIV/AIDS communications, resources and activities.
- Increase health-seeking behaviour.
- Intensify communication around action days (such as Condom day, World AIDS day) Creating a climate which would eradicate the stigmatisation of People Living with AIDS (PWAs), thereby encouraging disclosures.
