The Cluster Maternal, Child and women's Health and Nutrition is responsible for the co-ordination of programmes and policy guidelines development in Maternal, Child and women's Health and Nutrition. 

It collaborates with other units in drawing up norms and standards for service delivery, monitoring and evaluation. The main focus is the prevention of morbidity and mortality and the promotion of health through human resource development, the Expanded Programme on Immunization and the Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses, among other interventions. 

The Cluster also reviews legislation and regulations pertaining to reproductive health and the well being of children. It is responsible for management of the Integrated Nutrition Programme in collaboration with provincial departments of health. 

The Integrated Nutrition Programme consists of seven focus areas and 3 support systems primarily focussing on nutritional status as to improve the well being of infants, young children and mothers through implementing integrated nutrition activities. The nutrition programme also collaborates with the Departments of Education, Agriculture and Social Development in promoting nutrition educational activities.

The Cluster also collaborates with other Government bodies in the area of Violence Against Women, HIV/AIDS, Youth health and the Rights of the Child through the National Programme of Action Steering Committee.
