The Employment Equity Directorate was established in June 2000 in terms of Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Directorate is responsible for all Employment Equity related issues, thus includes:- dissemination of information with respect to Employment Equity, establishment and maintenance of consultative forums, reviewal of existing employment policies, development of equity plan, evaluate and monitor adherence to the Employment equity Act, to mention but a few.

This directorate is responsible for policy development at macro/national level with regard to Human Resource Development, staffing norms and standards, development and utilization of personnel. This includes development of the National Human resource plan. There are four sub-directorates :-

The vision of the Human Resources for Health Task Team (HRH TT) is to develop and implement an effective and efficient management system that will strengthen the delivery of equitable primary health care nationally.
The HRH TT was tasked to "roll – out" the first two years of the Human Resources for Health Draft National Strategy.
Our responsibilities include:
- Developing the first two years of the Human Resources for Health five – year Strategy;
- Facilitating the process of revising the scopes of practice of the five major professional groups;
- Conducting a PHC Clinic Survey across the nine Provinces;
- Updating and maintaining the Management Development database;
- Establishing Training and Education Support Committees;
- Implementing workplace support systems, and
- Competency profiling for DHS managers and the development of a HMCFM.
